There's Always a Word Waiting For You

Today’s post won’t be long. We all need reminders that what we are experiencing isn’t new or unheard of. Our thoughts, feelings, and prayers have been uttered, through various modes and vessels, throughout the existence of time. The Bible is still applicable today, and more often than not, the words we want and need to hear are written between Genesis 1:1 and Revelation 22:21. The Psalms will forever be one of my favorite books in the Bible, because of its raw, honest, and encouraging verses. So, I hope this Psalm (in both the NLT and NKJV translations) provides the same comfort it does for me each time I read it.

Psalm 6

NLT

No, Lord! Don’t punish me in the heat of your anger. Pity me, O Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, for my body is sick, and I am upset and disturbed. My mind is filled with apprehension and with gloom. Oh, restore me soon.

Come, O Lord, and make me well. In your kindness save me. For if I die, I cannot give you glory by praising you before my friends.  I am worn out with pain; every night my pillow is wet with tears. My eyes are growing old and dim with grief because of all my enemies.

Go, leave me now, you men of evil deeds, for the Lord has heard my weeping and my pleading. He will answer all my prayers. All my enemies shall be suddenly dishonored, terror-stricken, and disgraced. God will turn them back in shame.

NKJV:

O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak;
O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled;
But You, O Lord—how long?

Return, O Lord, deliver me!
Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!
For in death there is no remembrance of You;
In the grave who will give You thanks?

I am weary with my groaning;
All night I make my bed swim;
I drench my couch with my tears.
My eye wastes away because of grief;
It grows old because of all my enemies.

Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity;
For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my supplication;
The Lord will receive my prayer.
Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;
Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.
